if x-a is a factor of the given equation then it should satisfy x-a=0 I.e x=a
hence by substituting x=a in given equation we get a^5-a^3(a^2) +2a +a -3 = 0
a^5-a^5+3a-3 = 0
3a-3 = 0
a=1
hence the value of a is 1

a5410243: better luck next time but thanks!! :))
