suppose x=rows=column
x×x=9811
x^2=9811
x=√9811
if √9801=99
clearly there are 99 rows&column
men left=9811-9801=10 men left
so,9801 men are arranged properly
&10 men are left

Concept

The number when multiplied by itself is called square of the number The symbol √ is used for indication of square root.

For eample

√16 = 4

Given

9811 men are to be arranged in rows to form perfect square

Find

1) Number of man in each row

2) Number of man that are left out

Solution

Let x be the number of rows

As it is  a square so

Number of rows = Number of columns

x = rows = columns

x * x = 9811

x² = 9811

x = √9811

If  √9801 = 99

Clearly there are 99 rows and columns

Number of men left = 9811 - 9801 = 10

So, 9811 men are arranged in 99 rows and 99 columns and 10 men are left out.
