9900 students of Chennai appeared in the board examination. Out of them 35%
secured 1" division, 45% secured 2 division, 10% were allowed for compartmental

Answer: 1 division = 3415.  2 division = 4405.  compartmental examination = 990.  amount that failed = 1360

That is the answer to division 1. For 45% we just need to add 10% onto the last answer, so 3415 + 990 is 4405. So that is the answer to division 2. To find the amount that failed just add all the answers we have so far and subtract it from the amount that entered, so 3145 + 990 + 4405 = 8540,   9900 - 8540 = 1360. So 1360 is the amount that failed.
