Since factors of 72 that gives 18 on addition are 12 and 6.

So,

$9 {x}^{2} + 12x + 6x + 8 = 0$

$3x(3x + 4) + 2(3x + 4) = 0$

$(3x + 2) \: (3x + 4)$

$x = \frac{ - 4}{3} \: and \: \frac{ - 2}{3}$
