Step-by-step explanation:

Given

3x +5y =10 _____(i)

5x+3y =14 _____(ii)

To find ,

x+y = ?

By substitution method

from equation (i)

3x + 5y = 10

x =  \frac{10  -  5y}{3}

This value of x put in equation (ii) we get

5x + 3y = 14

5( \frac{10  -  5y}{3} ) + 3y = 14

 ( \frac{50 - 25y}{3} ) + 3y = 14

Multiple by 3 both sides we have

50 - 25y + 9y = 42

 - 16y = 42 - 50

 - 16y =  - 8

y =  \frac{ - 8}{ - 16}

y =  \frac{1}{2}

Value of y put in equation (3) we get

x =  \frac{10  -  5y}{3}

x =  \frac{10 - 5 \times 1}{3 \times 2}

x =  \frac{5}{6}

then

x + y =

 \frac{5}{6}  +  \frac{1}{2}

 \frac{5 + 3}{6}

 \frac{8}{6}

 \frac{4}{3}
