Solution:

1-inch length in the scale drawing corresponds to a length of 12 feet in the actual room.  

1 feet  = 12 inch

=> 1-inch length in the scale drawing corresponds to a length of  12 * 12 = 144 inch  in the actual room.  

Linear Scale   is  1 : 144

Area = Length x Breadth  

Scale for Area   =   1² : 144²

=> 1  : 20736

   

1  : 20736 scale factor can be used to determine the area of the actual dining room.
