A 10 g bullet with a horizontal velocity of 300 m.s-1
hits a wooden block of mass 290 g. After collision, the
block and the bullet move together and come to rest
after travelling 15 m horizontally. What is the coeffi-
cient of friction between the block and the horizontal
plane on which it is kept?

Explanation:

v²=u²-2as

0= 9×10⁴-30a

a= 3× 10³ m/s²

F = ma

= 3×10³×1/100

= 30N (force of bullet on block)

F = kmg (force of friction is equals force by bullet)

30= k×0.29×10

k= 10.1
