Answer:-

Given:-

  • Height of the Ladder = 10 m (Hypotenuse)
  • Distance between the wall and the base of the Ladder = 6 m (Base)

To Find: Altitude of the right angled triangle or, after covering how much distance the ladder touched the wall.

We know, in case of a right angled triangle,

(Hypotenuse)² = (Base)² + (Altitude)²

Let the altitude be = a

∴ (6)² + a² = (10)²

→ a² = (10)² - (6)²

→ a² = (10 + 6)(10 - 4)

[Since a² - b² = (a + b)(a - b)]

→ a = √[(16)(4)]

→ a = 4 × 2

a = 8 m

Therefore, the ladder touched the wall after 8 metres.
