VELOCITY OF EFFLUX IS 10 m/s.

Given:

  • A water tank is filled upto the brim of height 10 metres.

  • Hole is made at middle height

To find:

Velocity of efflux ?

Calculation:

  • The hole is made at the middle between the top and bottom of container.

So, length of water column above the whole will be :

h =  \dfrac{10}{2}  = 5 \: m

Now, according to TORICELLI'S FORMULA:

  • Let velocity of efflux be v

v =  \sqrt{2gh}

 \implies \: v =  \sqrt{2 \times 10 \times 5}

 \implies \: v =  \sqrt{100}

 \implies \: v = 10 \: m {s}^{ - 1}

So, velocity of efflux is 10 m/s.

The  velocity  of efflux is 9.89 meter/sec.

Explanation:

Given:

10 meter  high tank and it is full with water.

At middle of tank a hole appears.

To Find:

The  speed  of efflux.

Formula Used:

V=\sqrt{2g(y-z)}        --------------------- formula no.01.

Where,

V=velocity of the efflux of the water

g=acceleration due to gravity=9.8 m/s²

y=total height of the container.

z=height at which the hole appear.

Solution:

As given-10 meter  high tank and it is full with water.

y=10 meter

As given-at middle of tank a hole appears.

z=\frac{y}{z}

 =\frac{10}{2} =5\ meter

Applying formula mo.01.  

V=\sqrt{2g(y-z)}

   =\sqrt{2\times 9.8\times(10-5)}

   =\sqrt{2\times 9.8\times 5}

  =\sqrt{98}

  = 9.89\ meter/sec

Thus,the  velocity  of efflux is 9.89 meter/sec.
