A 100 Kg car is moving at a speed of 10
m/sec and comes to rest after covering a
distance of 50 m. The amount of work done
against friction is:
(A) +5 x 1013 (B) +5 x 102]
(C) +5 x 103J (D) +5 x 104J
How?

Answer:

work done = change in kinetic energy

so, w = 1/2mv^2 - 1/2 mu^2

u = initial velocity = 10

and v = final velocity = 0

w = 0 - 1/2 x 100 x 100 = - 5000 J = - 5 x 10^3 J here - indicates work is done against motion
