A 12v battery is connected is the arrangment is resistors as in the circuit diagram shown in fig 12.38 calculate.
1)the total effective resistance of the arrangment.
2)the total current flowing in the circuit.

Explanation:

10Ω and 20Ω resistors are connected in series, so their effective resistance is just their sum = 10Ω + 20Ω = 30Ω

5Ω and 25Ω resistors are connected in series, so their effective resistance is 5Ω + 25Ω = 30Ω.

Notice that these effective resiatances are in parallel,let their effective resistance(of circuit) is R,

1/R = 1/30 + 1/30

1/R = 2/30

1/R = 1/15

Hence, effective resistance R = 15Ω.

Using ohm's law, V = iR

=> 12 = i(15)

=> 4/5 = i

=> 0.8 = i

Total current in the circuit is 4/5A or 0.8A.
