Find out the distance of foot of ladder from the wall .

To prove

As given

A ladder 13 m long reaches a window 12 m above the ground.

By using the pythagorus theorem

Hypotenuse² = Perpendicular² + Base²

As shown the diagram given below .

AB² = AC ²+ CB²

as AB = 13 m ,

AC = 12m

put in the above

13² = 12² + CB²

169 = 144 + CB²

169 - 144 = CB²

25 = CB²

CB =

 \sqrt[]{25}

CB = 5m

Therefore the distance of foot of ladder from the wall be 5 m .
