A 15 m long ladder reached a window 12m high from the ground on placing it aganista wall at a distance 'a'. Find the distance of the foot of ladder from the wall

let the height of the ladder be AB

AB= 15m

and

distance of the window from the ground be AC

AC = 12m

Now

In right angled triangle ABC

By Pythagoras theorem

AB²= AC²+BC²

15²= 12²+BC²

225= 144+BC²

BC²=225-144

= 81

BC=9m

thus

distance of the foot of ladder from the wall is 9m
