Given

A 15m long ladder is placed against a wall.

The distance between the ground to the window is 12m high.

To Find

The distance of the foot of the ladder from the wall.

Solution

Here we will use the Pythagorean Theorem to find the distance of the foot of the ladder from the wall.

Here the length of the ladder is the hypotenuse.

The distance between the ground to the window is the height.

The distance of the foot of the ladder from the wall is the base.

Pythagorean Theorem → (Base)² + (Height)² = (Hypotenuse)²

⇒ x² + (12)² = (15)²

⇒ x² + 144 = 225

⇒ x² = 225 - 144

⇒ x² = 81

⇒ √x = 9

∴ The distance of the foot of the ladder from the wall is 9 m

ApprenticeModerater: I didn't get your concept!!!
Anonymous: @divyanshukumargaya.....yes Pythagorean therom would be used cause we are given with the length of hypotenuse nd perpendicular......so when 2 measurements are given,we can use Pythagorean therom
