answer is 60,000 square feet.

-1st way

there are three ways to solve this question.

no. of rented floors=7+4=11

no. unrented floors=16-11=5

area of 1 floor= 12000 sq. feet

area of 5 floors=5*12000=60,000 sq. feet

-2nd way

no. of rented floors=7+4=11

area of 11 floors= 12000*11=132000 sq. feet

area of 16 floors= 12000*16=192000 sq. feet

hence, area of unrented 5 floors= 192000-132000=60,000 sq. feet

-3rd way

area of 7 floors= 12000* 7=84000 sq. feet

area of 4 floors= 12000*4=48000 sq. feet

therefore, area of 11 rented floors= 84000+48000=132000 sq. feet

area of total 16 floors= 12000*16=192000 sq. feet

hence, area of unrented floors= 192000-132000=60,000 sq. feet
