GIVEN:

  • Length of train (Distance) = 160 m
  • Time taken by the train (t) = 18 seconds

TO FIND:

  • How long will it take to pass another platform 100m long?

SOLUTION:

We have given the length and time taken by the train.

  • Distance = 160 m
  • Time taken = 18 seconds

To find the speed(s) of the train, we use the formula:-

\large{\boxed{\bf{\star \: Speed = \dfrac{Distance}{Time} \: \star}}}

According to question:-

➠ s = \sf{\cancel\dfrac{160}{18}}

Speed = 8.88 m/s (approx) ❜

New Distance = 100 m

Speed of the train = 8.88 m/s

To find the time taken(t) by the train, we use the formula:-

 ❰ \bf{ Time = \dfrac{Distance}{Speed}} ❱

On putting the given values in the formula, we get

➠ t = \sf{\cancel\dfrac{100}{8.88}}

❛ Time = 11.26 sec (approx)

Hence, the train covered the 100 m distance in 11.26 seconds (approx)
