Answer:

Apply conservation of momentum take +x direction as +ve then initial momentum= final momentum.

16(30)+4(-50)=20(v)so v=280/20=14 cm/s .

Explanation:

here applies Newton's law of conservation of momentum

the formula is m1u1+m2u2=m1v1+m2v2

converting the values to si units

30 cm/s = 0.3 m/s

-50 cm/s = -0.5 m/s

putting the values,

16x0.3+4x(-0.5) = 16x? + 4x?

4.8 + (-2) = ?(16+4)

4.8-2=20?

2.8=20?

?=2.8/20

?=0.14 m/s
