A 1M ohm resistor is connected for 1 min when a potential difference of 1 kilo volt is applied. What will be the heat developed in resistor ?

1M, 1V, 1min (60seconds)

Current through the resistance of 1M= 1V/1M = 1 micro amp 1 X 10^-6 Amps.

Heat dissipated 1 X 1 X 1 (10^-6 x 10^-6 x 10^6) SI units so the unit is a Joule.

= 1 micro watt for 60 second ie 60 micro Joule and this will be the heat energy dissipation.
