we will use identity IV : (x+a)(x+b)
=(x square) +(a+b)x+ab
so,
(a+2)(a-1)
=a square+(2-1)a -2
=a square +a-2

The require answer is a^{2} +a -2.

As per the question we need to expand the (a+2)(a-1)

we will use identity IV : (x+a)(x+b)

so,

(a+2)(a-1)

=a^{2} +2a - a -2

=a^{2} +a -2

Hence the require answer is a^{2} +a -2.
