Answer:

h = 2 cm , u = -30 cm , v = -60 cm

1/v + 1/u = 1/f

1/f = 1/-60 + 1/-30

= 1/-60 - 1/30

= - 1 - 2 /60

= -3/60

f = 60/-3

f = -20 cm

A 2 cm high object is placed perpendicular to principal axis of the concave mirror and the distance of the object from the mirror is 30 cm and its image is formed at 60cm from the mirror on the same side of the mirror as the object

TO FINd

find focal length and draw ray diagram

SOLUTIOn

  • Height of the object (ho) = + 2cm
  • Distance of object (u) = - 30cm
  • Distance of image (v) = - 60cm
  • Focal length (f) = ?

Apply Mirror Formula

\implies\tt \dfrac{1}{u}+\dfrac{1}{v}=\dfrac{1}{f} \\ \\ \\ \implies\tt \dfrac{-1}{30}+\dfrac{-1}{60}=\dfrac{1}{f} \\ \\ \\ \implies\tt \dfrac{1}{f}=\dfrac{-2-1}{60} \\ \\ \\ \implies\tt \dfrac{1}{f}=\dfrac{-3}{60} \\ \\ \\ \implies\tt f=-20cm
