A 2 m crowbar is employed to lift a load of
300 kg. What force must be applied to one end
of the crowbar when a stump acting as a
fulcrum is placed under the crowbar 0.5 m
away from the end on which the load rests?
Neglect the weight of the crowbar.

Answer:

1000N

Explanation:

Clockwise moment of force = anticlockwise moment of force

Moment = Force in Newtons X distance to fulcrum

Load of 300kg = 3000N

Distance of load from fulcrum  0.5m

Force applied has to be found call this F

Distance of applied force to the fulcrum is 1.5 m  (2 m - 0.5)

3000 x 0.5 = F x 1.5

F = 3000 x 0.5 /1.5

F = 1000 N (or 100 kg although kg is not force)
