A 2 resistor is connected in series with parallel combination of

5 and 20 across a potential 6V. Calculate (i) the equivalent

resistance of the circuit and (ii) the current passing through the

cell.

Answer: i)6 ohms

              ii) 1A

Explanation:

The parallel system will simplify into 4 ohms [ 1/5+1/20 = 1/4]

so the total(equivalent resistance will be 2+4= 6 ohms

current= I=V/R

V= 6 volts (given)

R(eq) = 6 ohms

so current = 6/6 = 1A
