Let the digits be x and y.

Thus original number is = 10x + y

Now interchange the digits and we get

New number = 10y + x

According to question

10x + y - ( 10y + x ) = 72

10x + y - 10y - x = 72

9x - 9y = 72

9 ( x - y ) = 72

x - y = 8
