Given:-

  • length of ladder is 20 feet.
  • length of wall is 16 feet.

To find:-

  • base of ladder form the wall?

Solution:-

According to Pythagoras theorem:-

\dag{ \underline{ \boxed{\rm { \pink{ {h}^{2} = {p}^{2} +  {b}^{2} }}}}}

Where,

  • h = 20 feet
  • p = 16 feet
  • b = (to find)

So,

\longrightarrow{20}^{2} = {16}^{2} + {b}^{2} \\ \\\longrightarrow 400 = 256 + {b}^{2} \\ \\ \longrightarrow{b}^{2} = 400 - 256 \\ \\ \longrightarrow{b}^{2} = 144 \\ \\ \longrightarrow b = \sqrt{144} \\ \\\longrightarrow \dag { \boxed{ \underline{ \blue{b = 12 \: feet}}}}

Hence, the measure of base is 144 feet.
