Mass of gun 'M' = 5kg

Speed of the bullet 'u' = 500m/s (meters per second)

recoil speed of the gun 'v' = ?

Using the conservation of momentum,

Initial momentum of the gun bullet system = final momentum of the system

Initial momentum = 0

Final momentum = mu + Mv

0 = mu + Mv

v = -mu/M = -(0.02*500)/5 = -10/5 = -2m/s (minus infront of 2 mean guns velocity is in the opposite direction to bullets velocity)

recoil speed 'v' = 2m/s.
