A 20 m long rope is stretched from the top of a 12 m tree to the ground. What is the distance between the tree and the end of the rope on the ground​

consider this a right angled triangle,

then the tree becomes the side (perpendicular) and the rope is the hypotenuse.

according to Pythagoras,

(Hypotenuse)²=(Side)²+ (Side)²

therefore, (20)²= (12)²+(base)²

400=144+(base)²

400-144=(base)²

256=(base)²

base=√256

hence, base=16 m
