Answer:

The copper losses of shunt motor is 564.54W

Explanation:

Given that,A 200v shunt motor develops 23 H.P output when taking 20.2 KW of power.The filed resistance is 50 ohm and armature resistance is 0.06 ohm.We are required to fin the total copper losses.

First we convert the output power in kilowatt units as shown

P_{out}=23\times746=17158W=17.158kW

The input power is given as P_{in}=20.2kW

Therefore total losses are P_{in}-P_{out}=20.2-17.158=3042W

And the input current is the ratio of Input power to the voltage of the shunt motor.Hence,i_{inp}=\frac{20200}{200} =101A

The shunt current is the ratio of voltage to the filed resistance.Hence,

i_{sh}=\frac{200}{50} =4A

Therefore the armature current is the difference of input current and shunt current.Hence,i_{a}=101-4=97A

Now,the total copper losses is the product of armature resistance to the square of the armature current.Hence,Mathematically we write-

Cu_{loss}=i_{a}^{2} R_{a}

Substituting the values in above relation,we get-

Cu_{loss}=97^{2} \times0.06=564.54W

Therefore,the copper losses of shunt motor is 564.54W
