The train will pass a man who is moving in the opposite direction of the train at a speed of 12 km/hr, in 12 seconds.

Step-by-step explanation:

The length of the train = 220 m

The speed of the train = 54 km/hr = 54 × \frac{5}{18} = 5 × 3 = 15 m/s

The speed of the man = 12 km/hr = 12 × \frac{5}{18} = 3.34 m/s

 Since the man is moving in the opposite direction of the train therefore we will take the sum of the two speeds as their relative speed i.e.,

Relative speed = 15 + 3.34 = 18.34 m/s

Thus,

The time taken by the train to pass the man moving in the opposite direction is given by,

= [Length of the train] / [Relative speed]

= \frac{220}{18.34}

= 11.99 sec

12 sec
