A 2200kg car is travelling at 30 m/s collides with another 2200kg car thats is at rest . The two bumpers lock and the cars move forward together. What is thier final velocity?

Answer: 15m/s (assuming frictional forces were negligible)

Explanation:

The formula to find momentum, mass or velocity (knowing any of the two variables) is P(momentum kgm/s) = m(mass/ kg) * v(velocity/ m/s)

We know the mass of Car 1 and its velocity and the mass of Car 2.

Since the masses are the same, then the velocity of the two cars as one body is halved.

I have just happened to work this out today in an exam :D
