A 2kg cart moving right st 5 m/s on a frictionless track collides with a 3 kg cart moving left at 3m/s. Class 9.

mass(1) = 2kg

velocity (1) = 5m/s

KE = ½mv²

= ½2×5²

= 25J

mass(2) = 3kg

velocity (2) = 3m/s

KE = ½mv²

= 27/2

= 13.5 J

therefore, after the collision , the second cart will move back , while the first cart will remain in its motion with its KE = 11.5J

therefore, the velocity of the first cart changes to =>(½mv²) = 11.5

=> 2(v²) = 23

=> v² = 11.5

=> v = √11.5

=> v = 3.39 or 3.4m/s
