The wall running along the edges of the verandah decreases its length and breadth from the edges as it also occupies some space.
So, we need to subtract the thickness of wall from length and breadth to find the actual length and breadth.
So the length and breadth are found and solutions are in the attachment.

hall area:-
20m×8m = 160m

area including hall and verandah:-
(20+4)×(8+4)
24×12 = 288m

so area of verrarandah:-
288m-160m = 128meters -answer
