Given :  3 kg bag of rice lasts exactly 30 days for Mrs. and Mr. Pestonjee when both consume equal amounts.

Mr. Pestonjee cuts down his rice intake by half on his doctor's advice,

To Find : How many days would a 3 kg bag last then

A 35

B 40

C 42

D 45

Solution:

3 kg bag of rice lasts exactly 30 days for Mrs. and Mr. Pestonjee when both consume equal amounts.

1 kg = 1000 g

3 kg = 3000 g

Consumption Each day  =  3000/30  =  100 g

Mrs. and Mr. Pestonjee  both consume equal amounts.

=> Each consume daily  = 100/2 = 50 g

Mr. Pestonjee consume daily = 50 g

Mrs.   Pestonjee consume daily = 50 g

Mr. Pestonjee cuts down his rice intake by half on his doctor's advice,

=>  Mr. Pestonjee consume daily = 50/2  = 25 g

Mr. and Mrs Pestonjee daily consumption = 50 + 25 = 75 g

Number of days  3 kg bag would last  = 3000/75

= 40
