u= -8 cm  &   v=24 cm

Explanation:

-v/u=3 (given)

or  -v=3u

or   v=-3u

f= -12 cm

Putting the above values in the mirror formula:

1/v+1/u=1/f

or  1/-3u  +  1/u = 1/-12

or  -1+3/3u = 1/-12  [taking 3u as LCM]

or  2/3u=-1/12

or  3u = -24

or  u=-24/3

or u= -8 cm

We know, v=-3u

Now v=-3*-8

or  v=24 cm
