Answer:

The answer is 1.25 km/h rightward.

Explanation:

i) The law of conservation of momentum is applicable here.

ii) Given data:

Mass of truck (m1) = 3000 kg

Mass of car (m2) = 1000 kg

Initial velocity of truck (u1) = 5 km/h

Initial velocity of car (u2) = -10 km/h

Final velocity after collision (v) = ? km/h

iii) According to law of conservation of momentum:

Initial momentum = Final momentum

m1u1 + m2u2 = (m1 + m2)v

3000 x 5 - 1000 x 10 = (3000 + 1000)v

v = 5000/4000 = 1.25 km/h

iv) Hence, post-collision velocity of the car and the truck is 1.25 km/h rightward.
