a 3000 kg truck truck moving with a velocity of 10 m/ s hits a 1000 kg parked car . the impact causes the 1000 kg car to be set in motion at 15 m/s.assuming that momentum is conserved during the collosion , determine the velocity of the truck immediately after the collosion

Answer:

5m/s

Explanation:

m1,mass of truck=3000kg,, m2,mass of car=1000kg.

u1=10m/s initial velocity of truck,u2=0 ,initial velocity of car (At rest means velocity is zero)

v1=final velocity of truck ,,?, v2,final velocity of car=15m/s

According to COLM,pi=pf (initial momentum of system=final momentum of system) when Fext =0

then,momentum of system intially, pi=m1u1+m2u2

=3000×10+1000×0=30000+0=30000kgm/s

Pf=m1v1+m2v2

=3000v1+1000×15

=3000v1+15000

now,Pi=Pf

m1u1+m2u2=m1v1+m2v2

30000=3000v1+15000

3000v1=30000-15000

3000v1=15000

v1=15000/3000

v1=5m/s
