we should put the broken end at the tip of the pencil. And we have to subtract 2.6 cm from the total measurement.

The measurement can be done as follows:

Explanation:

  • 1) The broken end has a 2.6 cm mark.
  • As a result, we'll start with the scale from the next complete mark, which is 3 cm.
  • We'll now measure the pencil's length by keeping the scale's 3 cm mark at the left end.
  • 2) Place one end of the pencil at the nearest complete mark, in this case 3.0 cm.
  • Take a look at the opposite end's reading.
  • Subtract 3 from the preceding reading to arrive at the required pencil length.
