Let AB be the building, AC be the ladder and BC be the length btw the base of the ladder and the building

Δ ABC is a right angled triangle,

AB² + BC² = AC²

BC² = AC² - AB²

      = 34² - 30²

      = 1156 - 900

BC² = 256

BC   = 16 feet
