Answer:

A force f has a magnitude of 300 Newton and makes an angle of 300 degrees with the positive x axis. What is the component of the force along the x-axis fx and along the y- axis fy?

Given

The magnitude of the force, F=300N

Angle θ=3000

The above situation can be drawn as follows

Therefore the component of force along the x-axis is

Fx=Fcos(360−θ)=Fcos(360–300)=Fcos(60)

( ∵cos is positive in forth quadrent)

⇒Fx=300×12=150N

The component of force along the x-axis is

Fy=Fsin(360−θ)=Fsin(360–300)=F(−sin(60))

[ sin(360−θ)=−sinθ this is because (360−θ) lies in the forth quadrent where sin is negative according to ASTC rule.]

Fy=300×(−0.866)=−259.8N
