Answer:
A day before their second game of the competition, the Sunrisers Hyderabad social media team was active on all platforms showering praises on Kane Williamson. The New Zealand skipper had just won the Sir Richard Hadlee medal for the fourth time and every single post was met with responses from fans calling for his immediate inclusion in the playing XI. It's been the story of his IPL career so far. One of the best batsman in the world across formats, Williamson has found it hard to nail down a permanent spot in the SRH XI. The latest reason given by the head coach was the lack of match-fitness.
SRH still have four games left in Chennai and a player of Williamson's calibre will surely be handy on these surfaces. Even if he is ready to play, how they fit him in especially after Jonny Bairstow's sparkling fifty against Kolkata Knight Riders remains to be seen. SRH's team sheet isn't the only one people will be keeping an eye on though. Royal Challengers Bangalore are all set to welcome Devdutt Padikkal back into the fold. The youngster's inclusion will further strengthen a batting lineup that already looked in good touch in the tournament opener. This is also quite an important game for Yuzvendra Chahal, who has been looking off-colour for a while now. The legspinner would want to get some rhythm before embarking on tougher challenges in Mumbai and Kolkata later in the tournament.
When: SRH vs RCB, April 14, 2021, 19:30 IST
Where:MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai
What to expect: Another humid day in the offing in Chennai but the pitches haven't been too challenging as they were expected to be. In the two matches played so far, the average score is 170.
Head To Head: SRH 10 - RCB 7. These two sides last met in the Eliminator last season. In a tightly fought contest that had was moving towards RCB, SRH pulled off a six-wicket win and incidentally, Williamson got them over the line with a trademark unbeaten half-century and was also named man of the match.
Team Watch:
Sunrisers Hyderabad
Tactics & Matchups:Jason Holder is out of quarantine for SRH and it will be interesting to see if he slots back straight into the playing XI. Mohammad Nabi did pick up a couple of wickets against KKR but it did come quite late after he took a beating. Holder and Shahbaz Nadeem coming in for Nabi and Sandeep Sharma is perhaps a tactic to ponder for SRH. But then again, Sandeep also has an excellent history against the men in red. AB de Villiers has struggled in recent years against leg spin and saving an over or two from Rashid Khan for the mercurial batsman will be on top of SRH's agenda.
Probable XI: David Warner (c), Wriddhiman Saha (wk), Manish Pandey, Jonny Bairstow, Jason Holder/Mohammad Nabi, Vijay Shankar, Abdul Samad, Rashid Khan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Shahbaz Nadeem/Sandeep Sharma, T Natarajan
Royal Challengers Bangalore
Tactics & Matchups: Washington Sundar, renowned for bowling in the powerplay, wasn't used in that phase against Mumbai Indians. But RCB will be looking to pit him against David Warner straightaway. They did have eight bowling options against MI but with Padikkal returning, dropping Shahbaz Ahmed might not be a bad idea.
Probable XI: Virat Kohli (c), Devdutt Padikkal, Rajat Patidar, Glenn Maxwell, AB de Villiers (wk), Washington Sundar, Daniel Christian, Kyle Jamieson, Harshal Patel, Mohammad Siraj, Yuzvendra Chahal
Did you know?
- Virat Kohli has scored just 58 runs off 55 deliveries in his last six outings against SRH
- Sandeep Sharma has picked up 23 wickets in 15 games against RCB
What they said:
"I'm being put in more difficult situations this IPL so I have a bigger stage and a bigger role to play. I don't do goal setting. Everytime I step out on to the field, my goal is to make a positive impact on the field. It's very contextual... It can be a five-wicket haul or a dot ball at a very important juncture of the game. Or it can be a brilliant stop or a brilliant catch. Or it can be a single run that you score. It can be anything, my only goal is to have a positive impact on the team." - RCB pacer Harshal Patel
