A=3i+4j and B= i-j, are two vectors in x-y plane .find the magnitude of the sum of these two vectors.

Vector A = 3i + 4j
Vector B = i - j
Let vector C be their resultant.
C = A + B
= 3i + 4j + i - j
= 4i + 3j

To find the magnitude, we will use the pythagoras theorem.
Since 4i is the displacement along x axis and 3j is the displacement along y axis, resultant of these two unit vectors will be their hypotenuse, when the vector triangle addition law is used.
So |C| =
 \sqrt{ {4}^{2} +  {3}^{2}   }  \\  =  \sqrt{16 + 9}  \\  =  \sqrt{25}  \\  = 5
This is the magnitude of the resultant.
