Thus the acceleration is 250 m/s and the force is 750 N.

Explanation:

Mass of hanger = 3 Kg

Speed of hammer = 5 m/s

Distance covered by the nil = 1 cm = 0.01 m

velocity = d / t

5 m/s= 0.01 / t

t = 0.01 / 5 = 0.002 second

(a) Acceleration:

a = vf - vi / t

a =  0 - 5 / 0.02 =  - 250 m/s^2 ( -ve sing indicates deceleration)

(b) Force:

F = ma

F = 3 x 250 =  750 N

Thus the acceleration is 250 m/s and the force is 750 N.
