A 4.5 V flash light battery gives a current of 0.5 amperes, if connected across a resistance of 7.5 ohm.What is the short circuit current ?

The relation between resistance(R₁), voltage and  current through the battery can be given by;

         Resiatance of the battery(R)=Voltage across the battery(V)/current through the battery(I)

R=V/I

R=4.5/0.5=9Ω

When the battery is connected across the resistance of 7.5Ω the equivalent resistance(R₂) will be;

1/R2=1/9 +1/7.5

R₂=9×7.5/16.5=4.09Ω

The short circuit current will be(I) = Voltage/R

I=4.5/4.09=1.10A

Hence, the short circuit current will be 1.10A.
