Length of original square = x
Area of original square = x²
Length of strip = length of square = x
Width of strip = 4
Area of strip = 4x
Area of remaining square = 60
According to question,
x²- 4x = 60
x² - 4x - 60 = 0
x² - 10x + 6x - 60 = 0
x( x - 10) + 6(x - 10) = 0
(x-10) (x+6) = 0
x = 10 Or x = -6
Length cannot be negative
Hence x=10
Therefore, length of square = 10m
Area of original square = x²
Length of strip = length of square = x
Width of strip = 4
Area of strip = 4x
Area of remaining square = 60
According to question,
x²- 4x = 60
x² - 4x - 60 = 0
x² - 10x + 6x - 60 = 0
x( x - 10) + 6(x - 10) = 0
(x-10) (x+6) = 0
x = 10 Or x = -6
Length cannot be negative
Hence x=10
Therefore, length of square = 10m
