As the resistors are connected in series, same amount of current flows through them. {I}_{4\Omega}={I}_{8\Omega}\\\Rightarrow \frac{{V}_{4\Omega}}{4}=\frac{{V}_{8\Omega}}{8}\\\Rightarrow \frac{V}{4}=\frac{12-V}{8}\\\Rightarrow 2V=12-V\\\Rightarrow V=4V\\
