If the wire is doubled on itself , it acts as a parallel connection.....

therefore,

 \frac{1}{r } =  \frac{1}{a}  +  \frac{1}{b}

where a and b are two given resistances.

therefore,

 \frac{1}{r}  =  \frac{1}{4}  +  \frac{1}{4}  =  \frac{1}{2}

therefore,

r = 2 \: ohm
