10 percent of 40 is 4 lites of water
now
 \frac{20}{100} \times (40 + x) = 4 + x \\ 40 + x = 20 + 5x \\ x = 5 \\
5 litres of water more should be added

vanshika960: It's wrong
Anonymous: no it's definitely correct
vanshika960: no it's answer is 9 not 5
Anonymous: total is 9 but moree water added is 5
vanshika960: hmm
