Initially energy stored in capacitor =

1/2 *400pf * 100*100 = 2*10^-6J

Energy stored in capacitor = 1/2CV^2

Here,

When capacitor is disconnected and then connected to another capacitor of 400pf

1/C' = 1/C1 + 1/C2

1/C' = 1/400pf + 1/400pf

1/C' = 1/200Pf

C' = 200Pf

now...calculate energy stored

E = 1/2 *200pf * 100*100

E = 10^6* 10^-12

E = 10^-6J (energy stored)

Energy loss = (initial energy - energy stored)

Energy loss = ( 2*10^-6 -10^-6)

Energy loss = 10^-6J

lost energy utilised in charging new capacitors.

happy to help!
