Answer:

Let the amount of sugar (solute) be x gram

Therefore,

(x/420) *100=40

After simplifying.

x=168 g

Now,

Let the amount of sugar to be added be y grams..

Therefore,

(168+y)/420*100=65

After simplification

y=105

therefore, 105 gram of sugar(solvent) should be added..

Hope this helps.....

300 gm more sugar needs to be added such that the resulting solution has 65% sugar

Given :

A 420 grams of sugar solution has 40% sugar in it.

To find :

The amount of more sugar needs to be added such that the resulting solution has 65% sugar

Solution :

Step 1 of 2 :

Find the amount of sugar in the solution

Here it is given that 420 grams of sugar solution has 40% sugar in it.

So the amount of sugar in the solution

\displaystyle \sf{ = 420 \times  \frac{40}{100}  \:  \: grams  }

\displaystyle \sf{ = 168  \:  \: grams  }

Step 2 of 2 :

Find amount of sugar to be added

Let x gram sugar is to be added

Then amount of sugar solution = 420 + x gram

Total amount of sugar = 168 + x gram

So by the given condition

\displaystyle \sf{  (168 + x) = (420 + x) \times  \frac{65}{100} }

\displaystyle \sf{ \implies 16800 + 100x = 27300 + 65x }

\displaystyle \sf{ \implies  100x - 65x = 27300  -16800  }

\displaystyle \sf{ \implies  35x = 10500  }

\displaystyle \sf{ \implies  x = 300  }

300 gm more sugar needs to be added such that the resulting solution has 65% sugar
