Step-by-step explanation:

(a)

Let the numbers be 3x and 5x

Now , According to the Question

we have,

3x + 5x = 144

8x = 144

x = 144/8

x = 18

Now,

3x = 3*18

3x = 54

and

5x = 5*18

5x = 90

hence the two numbers are ...

54 and 90

Answer:

let numbers be x and y

As these numbers are in ratio 3:5

so x/y=3/5

so 5x=3y

y=5x/3

Also it is given

x+y =144-------(1)

Put value of y in 1

x+5x/3=144

taking LCM and by solving

(3x+5x) /3=144

8x=144×3

8x=432

x=54

put value of x in 1

so we will get y

y+54=144

y=90

So x is smaller number which is 90

So A is the correct option
