A 5.8 % (w/v) NaCl solution will exert an osmotic pressure closest to 2 M sucrose solution.

Given -

  • Percentage of NaCl solution = 5.8 %

In 100 ml NaCl solution weight of NaCl = 5.8 gram

We know that molarity is the moles of solute by volume of solution (in liter)

M = 5.8 gram/58.5 / 0.1 =1 M

NaCl dissociates into Na⁺ and Cl⁻ ions in presence of water.

So value of i = 2

We know that osmotic pressure (π) = iCRT

Here C, R and T are constants. So π will depends upon i, and i =2.

So correct option is 2 M sucrose solution.
